Giant Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands has announced his retirement, with the Dockers set to give him a farewell home game against Essendon this Saturday night.

The 36-year-old has played 270 games for the club and will finish his career having made the third-most appearances for the Dockers.

He is the competition’s all-time leader in hit-outs.

In a statement, the club said Sandilands made the decision to retire after battling a calf injury earlier this season.

“It’s all over and I’ve decided to retire,” he said.

“It’s obviously been a good journey but it’s my time to hang up the boots and move on to something else in life.”
