A 12-year-old boy has suffered extensive burns to his face, arms, legs and back after throwing fuel on a bonfire on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, firefighters say.

Paramedics were called to a home in Blairgowrie about 4:00pm where they found the injured boy, who appeared to be in a stable condition.

The boy is being flown to hospital for treatment, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) said the boy was injured after throwing fuel on a bonfire at the property, but firefighting crews did not need to put out any fire after they arrived.

More to come.
