Fire threatens lives and homes in Gnangara in Perth’s north

A bushfire emergency warning has been issued for some people in the northern part of Gnangara in Perth’s north, with lives and homes under threat.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the warning was for people in an area bounded by Badgerup Road, Stoney Road, Joyce Road, Steel Road, Lake Gnangara, Sydney Road, Tuscan Way, Colonial Circle and Lakelands Drive.

Homes on Sydney Road are under immediate threat.

People are urged to act immediately.

It is believed the fire started on Sydney Road.

A watch and act is in place an area bounded by Lake Gnangara, Sydney Road, Tuscan Way, Colonial Circle, Lakelands Drive, Badgerup Road and Lake Gnangara.

People in that area are urged to leave now or get ready to actively defend their properties.

The temperature is forecast to hit 40 degrees Celsius in Perth today, prompting a severe fire danger warning.

A fire ban is in place across the most of the state.
