A police operation is underway in Sydney’s west, following reports of a shooting near St Marys and Penrith Police stations.

Officials have urged people via Twitter to avoid the area “until further notice”.

Police say they have dispatched additional crews to the scenes at St Marys and Penrith Police Stations.

Shortly after tweeting news of the operation, police confirmed it was still ongoing.
