Here’s what you need to know this morning.

Blue Mountains death

Neighbours have described the deafening sound of a tree falling on a car in the Blue Mountains that killed a woman and seriously injured the driver.

Strong winds are believed to have brought down the tree on Victoria Street in Katoomba about 7pm last night.

A woman in her 40s died at the scene, while the P-plate driver was freed from the wreckage and taken to Westmead Hospital. He is in a serious condition.

Samantha Jones, a woman who lives nearby, described the sound as “frightening”.

Money-laundering syndicate

Two men and a woman are due to appear in court today charged over a $100 million money-laundering syndicate.

The men, aged 29 and 30, were arrested at Guildford West yesterday. A 30-year-old woman was also arrested in Merrylands West.

Police seized machines to count money and weigh gold bullion, $400,000 in cash, a Ford Mustang and designer jewellery.

All three have been accused of belonging to a criminal group, and money-laundering offences.

Fisherman’s body found

The body of a fisherman who went missing off the NSW Central Coast earlier this week has been found.

The 62-year-old fell while rock fishing south of Caves Beach on Sunday.

It prompted a large scale multi-agency search.

A member of the public found the body on rocks about 100 metres off shore near Wybung Head on Thursday morning, police said.

Harmful chemicals force drycleaner’s closure

A dry cleaning business in Sydney’s Oxford Street has been forced to temporarily close after testing revealed dangerous level of harmful chemicals.

Eurostar Drycleaners had a concentration of chlorinated solvents causing a “potential health risk” and needed immediate action, the City of Sydney said.

The solvents are used as part of the dry cleaning process.

Nearby businesses were tested but were below levels considered to pose an immediate health concern.

Stabbing murder charge

A man has been charged with murder after the fatal stabbing of a 29-year-old man at Surfside, north of Batemans Bay.

Police found the victim with multiple stab wounds at a house on April 13 this year — he died at the scene.

An 18-year-old man who was arrested and released at the time was re-arrested and charged on Thursday at Goulburn.

A 46-year-old woman from Batemans Bay was also charged with concealing an indictable offence and refused bail to appear in court today.
